About 100 high schoolers from across Maine will compete at USM's Gorham campus Saturday, March 3rd, in the annual Maine Regional Science Bowl.
The competition matches teams against teams in subjects ranging from biology, chemistry, space science, physics and math. The winning team will compete in the National Science Bowl in Washington D.C.
More than 50 volunteers at USM will include faculty, students and people from Westbrook-based IDEXX Laboratories, which is an event sponsor.
The contest will be held in USM's Bailey Hall. Registration opens at 8:30 a.m. Competition begins at 9:00 a.m., and finals will begin at around 3 p.m.
During the day, students will break up into several rooms, where they will begin question-and-answer competitions. As the day goes on, the competition will narrow down the field until two teams compete for the state title.
The Maine Science Bowl is sponsored by The Dpartment of Environmental Science & Policy, USM, IDEXX, Texas Instruments, and Roberta Gray. Volunteers and observers are welcome. If you are interested in volunteering please contact Rob Sanford.
