World-renowned executive, leader, and best-selling author Carla Harris inspires and motivates audiences through her well-earned pearls of wisdom – or “Carla’s Pearls.” These tools, strategies and lessons are sharpened by Carla’s own experiences climbing the global corporate ladder. Her keynote will focus on four basic tenets from her book, Expect to Win: Strategies for Thriving in the Workplace. Carla will offer practical insights and advice on the importance of authenticity, risk taking, mentorship and other leadership strategies for success, for both emerging and seasoned business professionals.

Known for taking on tough leadership issues related to equity and inclusion for women and minorities in business, Carla Harris is the vice chair, managing director and senior client advisor at Morgan Stanley’s global headquarters in New York City. She has been named to Fortune’s list of the 50 Most Powerful Black Executives in Corporate America, U.S. Banker’s Top 25 Most Powerful Women in Finance, and Essence Magazine’s list of the 50 Women Who are Shaping the World.
Harris was appointed by President Obama to chair the National Women’s Business Council in 2013. She also is the author of two best-selling books, Expect to Win (2009) and Strategize to Win (2014), and hosts the podcast “Access & Opportunity: Connecting Capital and Communities,” during which she interviews women entrepreneurs, minority business owners, venture capitalists and others, with a focus on inclusive innovation and opportunity.
She is known for inspiring and motivating audiences in-person and online through her well-earned pearls of wisdom – or “Carla’s Pearls.” This set of tools, strategies and lessons is sharpened by her own experiences climbing the global corporate ladder.
After earning her MBA from Harvard, Harris joined the investment bank and financial services company Morgan Stanley in 1987, holding influential positions in mergers and acquisitions and equity capital markets, and overseeing some of the largest public offerings in history. Harris was chair of the Morgan Stanley Foundation from 2005 to 2014 and sits on the boards of several community organizations. She was appointed by President Obama to chair the National Women’s Business Council in 2013.
The multi-talented Harris is also an accomplished gospel singer who has produced three albums and performed at Carnegie Hall five times.
