Fostering a Vibrant and Diverse Student Population
The Access to Education Scholarship was established at the University of Southern Maine (USM) in 2017 for the purpose of assisting individuals who are not eligible for any type of federal funding.
Funds shall be used to provide scholarship aid for deserving students attending USM who are not eligible to receive Federal Financial Aid. The goal of this fund is to encourage the growth of a vibrant and diverse student population at USM.
Preference for these scholarships is given to individuals from traditionally underrepresented populations, first-generation college students, students with diverse experiences, or students coming to Maine from an international geographic location.
The selection of recipient(s) shall be made by USM's VP for Enrollment Management & Student Affairs and a scholarship committee, or successor administrative unit(s) or position. The fund shall be administered by the Office of Financial Aid.
Should it ever become impossible or impractical to carry out the purposes of this fund as described above, the funds shall be used at the discretion of the University of Southern Maine for students from underrepresented populations who have demonstrated financial need.
