Steinway piano

USM is poised to become the first All-Steinway college or university in Maine!

On October 3, 2025, USM will join the elite ranks of 200 colleges, universities, and conservatories worldwide that have achieved the designation of All-Steinway School. This designation is symbolic of the highest-ranked music programs and virtually unheard of at a regional public university like ours. Not only will it be a point of pride for USM, but it will also help fuel enrollment growth for the Dr. Alfred and D. Suzi Osher School of Music.

And now, thanks to arts champion Daniel Crewe ’22H, you have a chance to name one of the 26 Steinways coming to the Crewe Center for the Arts!

The $250,000 Name Your Steinway Challenge

In support of USM’s All Steinway School campaign, Dan Crewe has challenged us to raise $250,000 by October 3, 2025, when the ribbon is cut on the new Crewe Center for the Arts. If we’re successful, he will double match it with a $500,000 donation, bringing the grand total to $750,000.

Help us meet our goal by participating in the Name Your Steinway Challenge. Your gift offers the opportunity to name one of the Osher School of Music’s Steinway pianos–a lasting legacy that will benefit talented USM music students for generations to come.

Meet the Steinway Pianos

The Crewe Center for the Arts will be home to 26 new Steinway pianos, ensuring that our students will learn and perform on the finest instruments available, a distinction that will serve them for life. The Osher School of Music pianos include different models, selected for specific locations within the Crewe Center, to meet academic and performance needs.
