USM Art Galleries Gorham and Portland
ON THE LINE: Juried Student Exhibition 2021
ON THE LINE Exhibition Dates: March 30-August 30, 2021
We are pleased to present this year's wonderful student artwork. This show fosters student preparation for professional art settings and processes, provides feedback from art professionals in the community, and exposes their work to a wide range of viewers. All the students who submitted work are to be heartily commended for their determination to create and succeed, especially during this difficult Covid year.
This year's jurors were Christian Adame, Peggy L. Osher Director of Learning and Interpretation, Portland Museum of Art; Pamela Moulton, Maine sculptor and installation artist, recent recipient of Kindling Fund Grant; and Diana K. Tuite, Katz Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art, Colby Museum of Art. We appreciate their collective insights:
"This was a strong showing of student work that would have been great to see in person. As a juror, I particularly appreciate some combination of risk, commitment to an original idea, and technical execution."–Diana Tuite
"I sought out work that had a unique personal vision and was well crafted. I was impressed by the ensemble of the work presented by the students and wish more could have been awarded honors!"–Pamela Moulton
“I am always drawn to work with a strong point of view and how the artist uses the media they are working with. The student work this year showcased a wide range of ideas, approaches, and personal perspectives.”-Christian Adame
