Special Instructions for New International Students Living On the USM Campus

Please plan your arrival for no later than Wednesday, January 17th, 2018.  Our office will be picking up students who are living in the campus Residence Hall.

For Exchange Students:

We strongly encourage students to plan their arrival in Boston, Massachusetts or Portland, Maine on January 16th, 2018 and stay in a hotel that night. If you are arriving in Portland, we recommend you stay in the Comfort Inn near the Airport, South Portland Maine, which offers a free shuttle service to the hotel. Be sure to tell the hotel receptionist you are coming for a University of Southern Maine so you will receive the discounted USM student rate of $100-120 per night. Please tell our office if you would like to share a hotel room with another incoming student, in order to further reduce your hotel cost.

Shuttle Schedule for Travel to Gorham Dormitories:

First trip: January 17th, 2018 at 11AM:  Begins at Concord Coach Bus Station, Comfort Inn by the Airport, Portland Jetport, and then to the Gorham Campus Residence Hall.

Please note that the Residence Halls will not be available to students any earlier than the January 17, 2018.

For Matriculated Full-Time Students:

Please plan for your arrival in Maine no later than Tuesday, January 16th, 2018. On Wednesday, January 17, 2018, you will need to report to the Portland Campus for a math placement test if necessary, to meet with your academic advisor, and complete course registration.

For students who are planning to live on campus, please contact our office to learn more about shuttle services to the dorms.

It is very important that you submit your travel plans in advance especially if you wish to be on the shuttle headed to the Student Residences.  Please use the enclosed travel plans form to tell us once your travel plans have been finalized or you can submit your travel plans to us electronically via our website at http://www.usm.maine.edu/international/travel-plans-form-0 . If you are flying into Boston rather than Portland we have included a Concord Trailways Bus schedule which makes regular trips from Boston to Portland.

For students who are staying in Portland based hotels or who are going straight to apartments or friends you will need to make arrangements for your own transportation. Within the Portland area taxi fees will range from $15-$25. Some hotels provide a free airport pick up service for the incoming guests so please check with them directlynternational Students
