Special Instructions for New International Students Living On the USM Campus

Please plan your arrival for no later than Wednesday, August 29th, 2018.  Our office will be picking up students who are living in the campus Residence Hall. If you are living in the Gorham Residence Halls please review the information below and make your travel plans accordingly.

Shuttle Schedule for Travel to Gorham Dormitories:

First trip: August 28th, 2018 at 6:30PM:  Begins at Concord Coach Bus Station, Comfort Inn by the Airport, Portland Jetport, and then to the Gorham Campus Residence Hall.

If you arrive after the scheduled pick-up time, you will need to make arrangements to stay in South Portland at the Comfort Inn Near the Airport, which is very close to the airport and offers a free shuttle service. Be sure to tell that you are coming for a USM program so that you receive the discounted USM student rate of approximately $100-$120 per night.

Our office may also be able to assist you with finding another incoming student to share your hotel room in order to defray some of the cost. Please be sure to let us know if you would be interested in the option.

Second trip: August 29th, 2018 at 11AM:  Begins at Comfort Inn Near the Airport, Concord Coach Bus Station, Portland Jetport, and then to the Gorham Campus Residence Hall.

Please note that the Residence Halls will not be available to students any earlier than the August 28, 2018.

For students who are planning to live on campus, please contact our office to learn more about shuttle services to the dorms.

It is very important that you submit your travel plans in advance especially if you wish to be on the shuttle headed to the Student Residences.  Please use the enclosed travel plans form to tell us once your travel plans have been finalized or you can submit your travel plans to us electronically via our website at http://www.usm.maine.edu/international/travel-plans-form-0 . If you are flying into Boston rather than Portland we have included a Concord Trailways Bus schedule which makes regular trips from Boston to Portland.

For students who are staying in Portland based hotels or who are going straight to apartments or friends you will need to make arrangements for your own transportation. Within the Portland area taxi fees will range from $15-$25. Some hotels provide a free airport pick up service for the incoming guests so please check with them directlynternational Students
