Comprehensive career support is available to all USM students at Lewiston-Auburn College. We offer interest assessments, a computer-based student employment service, and a variety of workshops to help students develop resumes and sharpen job-hunting, interviewing, and career planning skills. We also provide a computerized career exploration program and have career related books and resources to help students gain insight into specific careers and the job search process. Find out more!
Tutoring assistance in writing, math, statistics, computers, and science is available to all students. Our Writing Center staff provide one-on-one tutorials to help students improve their writing and critical thinking skills. One- on-one or small group assistance in math and statistics is provided by our math tutor. Student computer consultants are available in the information commons to work with students who need assistance with computer applications. Tutoring for SCI 105 and SCI 108 is available at the LAC Writing Center. Students may sign up for an appointment by going to usm.askonline.net and choose "SCI 105 (LAC)" or "SCI 108 (LAC)." Professionals from the USM Counseling Center are available at USM's Lewiston-Auburn College for free short-term counseling services to all students. Services include crisis/emergency assistance, personal counseling (for individuals, couples or groups), and referral services to both USM and community resources. Students who request counseling often have concerns and questions that interfere with their academic progress or other areas of personal growth. All information gathered in counseling is held in strict confidence. Please call 753-6572 to schedule an appointment.
USM makes every effort, through financial aid, to bring a college education within reach of every student in need. USM has a strong commitment to adult students, and provides need-based financial assistance in the form of grants, loans, and work-study. Our Financial Aid representatives will provide comprehensive financial aid counseling and services to USM students on this campus. They can answer your questions and provide the necessary forms. This USM office works closely with students who have disabilities to provide academic accommodations needed to ensure equal access to educational opportunities at USM. Students at USM who have a documented physical, auditory, visual, medical, psychological, or learning disability may receive academic services from the Disability Services Center. Students are encouraged to contact the Disability Services Center as soon as they are accepted to the University at 800-800-4876 ext. 4706 or TTY 780-4395. Liaison services for students with disabilities are provided on site at USM LAC through the Student Success Center.
Academic transcripts and other registrar-related services on the Lewiston campus are available in the Student Success Center. A transcript request form is needed, which you may obtain at the office or download it here and fax it to 753-6555 or mail it to Transcript Dept., USM LAC, 51 Westminster Street, Lewiston ME 04240. Up to 2 (two) transcripts are available on a walk-in basis. If you need more than two transcripts, please allow 5-10 days for your transcript request to be processed. Students may also access their grades and academic history via Mainestreet.
Students from other University of Maine System campuses who are taking courses at USM should complete a transcript request form to transfer their USM grades to the appropriate campus.
The Student Government Association (SGA)Student Government Association is a very active student organization that sponsors a wide variety of informational, educational and recreational activities that are available to all students. The SGA is actively involved in planning activities and in expanding services to students. Officers and senators of the SGA, elected by USM LAC students, play a very important role in the student government process.
