The first step to become a Learning Assistant is to submit your application via a web form (at the bottom on this page). You will be prompted for some basic information, as well as your current GPA and the contact information for two faculty references. As part of the application review, a member of the Learning Assistant Program Team will review your academic record to confirm your achievement of a B or higher in courses related to your LA position and a cumulative GPA of at least a 3.0.
After your application is received and reviewed, you will be contacted for an interview with the faculty teaching the course. All applicants will then be notified if an LA position will be offered for the upcoming semester.
The compensation for LAs is $12.55/hour. LAs are compensated for the following responsibilities and time on task:
- Participating in weekly meetings with the faculty teaching the course
- Engaging in weekly class meetings of the course as indicated by the faculty
- Fulfilling other weekly responsibilities such as facilitating study sessions and offering tutoring in the subject based upon the needs of the faculty and students of each course
- Completion of the LA professional development pathway, including mandatory training on Saturday, January 30th and biweekly small-group cohort meetings
