Joyce Taylor Gibson and Leigh Saufley to be inducted to Maine Women’s Hall of Fame
Joyce Gibson, an associate professor of Leadership Studies at the University of Southern Maine and former dean of Lewiston-Auburn College, and Leigh Saufley, dean of the University of Maine School of Law and former Maine Chief Justice, have been named to the Maine Women’s Hall of Fame.

USM students excel in Iceland challenge
For five University of Southern Maine students and recent graduates, it seemed like an icy mission impossible. Fly 2,300 miles to the edge of the Arctic Circle and while still fighting the four hours stolen by an eastbound red-eye flight, team up with students from a variety of prestigious Nordic universities, and find a way to save the world. It became the Iceland challenge.

Educational dreams celebrated, made real through USM Promise Scholarship
USM students and members of the public came together Sept. 12 to celebrate The Promise Scholarship, which helps disadvantaged students attend college. The night culminated in a speech by Maine Red Claws President Dajuan Eubanks, who shared his own story of success.

For these graduates, Commencement is a family affair
Jennifer Mull-Brooks, a long-time student of USM and assistant principal of Westbrook High School, will earn her second master's degree in May, and she'll graduate with her daughter, her son and his fiancée.

USM students helping Olympian connect Maine veterans with the community
The 2012 graduate of USM’s Occupational Therapy program created VAST — Veterans Adaptive Sports & Training — during the same year. Using grant money from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, she partnered with Pineland Farms in New Gloucester, Maine to offer veterans a free place to get together and the equipment and training to try lots of sports, from cross-country skiing and snowshoeing to archery, target shooting, basketball, tennis and disc golf.
