USM Libraries

Distance Learning Services

The University of Southern Maine Library provides a full range of library services to students taking online classes. The goal of the libraries is to support the research needs of distance learners as well as those students taking classes on the Portland, Gorham or Lewiston campus.

Students are now able to choose the login authentication method for remote access to e resources. Students have the option of using their UMaine login or their library barcode. The system also recognizes when a student is a multicampus student and will prompt the student to select the campus they wish to access. If already logged in thru Blackboard or the campus portal, the authentication prompt is not required but campus affiliation will be.

The library barcode is still required for interlibrary loan, requestor function and checking out materials.  It is important that students contact the USM Card Office for their ID card early in the semester. To obtain a USM ID card please fill out the webform found on the USM card services page under distance learners.

Resources and services for off-campus students are listed below. I am happy to answer any questions, so contact me today: Casandra Fitzherbert or 207.780.4279.
