Karina Escajeda, Linguistics alum, district K-12 English Language Learner Specialist at Cony Middle and High School in Augusta, Maine, has been offered a Fulbright Distinguished Awards in Teaching Semester Research Program grant. Recipients of Fulbright grants are selected on the basis of academic and professional achievement, as well as demonstrated leadership potential. Escajeda is one of approximately 25 U.S. citizens who will travel abroad through the Fulbright Distinguished Awards in Teaching Program in 2019-2020. She will be placed in Greece Jan-Jun 2020, researching how refugees (after asylum has been granted) are being integrated into learning communities and larger communities, and how teachers are receiving training in how to teach second language learners.
