Clara Jean Howard is a faculty member in the Department of Literacy, Language and Culture, housed within the School of Education and Human Development. She is interested in how teachers of any discipline become more effective educators of linguistically and culturally diverse students. Clara Jean has taught in K-12 contexts in Maine, Japan and India, and has been an adjunct faculty member of USM for two decades. 

Clara Jean teaches both graduate and undergraduate courses including Content-Based Curriculum for English Language Learners, Teaching Writing to Multilingual Learners, ESL Testing and Assessment, and Foundations of Cultural and Linguistic Diversity. 

Her interests include motorcycling, renovating a 140 year-old church as a summer home on Prince Edward Island, Canada, and spending time with her family.
