The USM Maker Innovation Studio (MIST Lab) is a collaborative work space for making, learning, exploring and sharing. Our makerspace is open to USM students, faculty, and staff as well as k-12 students and commercial prototyping ventures. We provide a variety of maker equipment including 3D printers, laser cutters, cnc machines, soldering irons and sewing machines. Our full list of equipment and software is provided above.

The MIST Lab's goal is to present its users with readily-available materials that can act as a provocation for inquiry, as well as modern technology and items to invent with. These spaces teach students critical 21st century skills in the fields of science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM).  They provide hands on learning, help with critical thinking skills, and even boost self-confidence.  Some of the skills that are learned in a makerspace pertain to electronics, 3d printing, 3D modeling, coding, robotics, design, and woodworking. Makerspaces also foster entrepreneurship and can be utilized as incubators and accelerators for business startups.
