Department of Mathematics and Statistics

Student Advising

Student advising is an important element of your success as a student.  The advising process can guide you to take the best courses for your ability level and to ensure you are progressing optimally toward your degree completion.

Each student in the department is automatically assigned an advisor upon declaring their major.  Students in a minor program or a certificate program also receive an advisor.

Students may change advisors anytime based on career interests and preference.

You are encouraged to contact your advisor anytime to make an appointment to meet with them.  At a minimum, students should meet with their advisor once a semester.  During this meeting, you will discuss your progress, future goals, and select upcoming courses for the next semester.

If you are a new student, you can check your Student Center in MaineStreet to find out who your advisors are (Academic and/or Professional).  If you have any questions, you can contact the math/stat office at 207-780-4608, C576 Science in Portland, or at 207-780-5360, 104 John Mitchell Center in Gorham.  The Gorham office is closed for two months in the summer.  (For the academic year 2019-2020, the Gorham office will open August 19, 2019.)
