AUDITIONS for our fall musical theatre production will take place Friday, Sept. 1 at 1pm in Corthell Concert Hall.
OF THEE I SING (performed Friday-Sunday, October 27-29 in Corthell Concert Hall)
Book by George S. Kaufman and Morrie Ryskind
Music by George Gershwin
Lyrics by Ira Gershwin
Directed by Ed Reichert
Music Direction by Kellie Moody
This all-American political satire focuses on the election campaign and Presidency of John P. Wintergreen, whose party, lacking a viable platform, runs on love. With politicians skewered right and left, Of Thee I Sing is an hilarious and timeless send-up of national institutions that is as relevant as ever (it even features its own impeachment proceedings!). In 1932, this show was the first musical to win the Pulitzer Prize for drama!
Please prepare a portion of a song (no longer than 32 bars of music) that shows off your vocal range. Song choices from the Golden Age of musicals or classic musical theater are preferred. Anything written by Gershwin, Berlin, Porter, Rodgers & Hart are examples of music that would be appropriate. Please no Andrew Lloyd Webber or contemporary/rock/pop. An accompanist will be provided. Please bring a copy of your music for the accompanist.
Auditions will be this Friday, Sept. 1 at 1pm in Corthell Concert Hall. In addition to singing, you may be asked to read from the script.
Rehearsals take place in Corthell on Friday afternoons (1-4pm) and late Sunday afternoons thru the weekend of the performances (Oct. 27-29).
Enrollment in MUS 404-0002 (musical theater segment of opera workshop) is required. This is a .5 credit course.
Additional information will be available on Friday at the auditions.
