USM School of Music COVID-19 Concerts and Events Policies

Dear Patrons and Friends of the USM School of Music,

The semester in the School of Music is off to a great start. The students have arrived vaccinated, masked and ready to make music. We are back to full capacity in our face to face classes and the kindness and care that got us through the last year and half is once again in evidence in Corthell Hall.

As we navigate through these difficult times, we will continue to change policies to allow as much as we can in the safest manner possible. We will make these decisions based on the advice of medical professionals, system policies, and state and federal guidelines.

In this light, we will be requiring proof of vaccine or negative COVID-19 test results for admission into our events this semester. Combined with the vaccine mandate for our students, youth ensemble members and community orchestra members, this will make Corthell Hall and the other venues we use as safe as possible for our students, faculty, staff and friends. This will, in turn, allow us to continue to learn together and make music together in as close to a “normal” fashion as possible.

Beginning with our first event, this Sunday’s, “I Know What You Did Last Summer!” Musical Theatre Showcase, we will have staff in the lobby verifying the vaccine or test status of the audience.  Audience members will be required to show that they are fully vaccinated or show evidence of a negative test administered by a healthcare provider. A photo ID that matches the name on the vaccine card or negative test results will also be required.  All tickets for our events must be purchased online. This includes free events. This will enable us to manage the size of audiences, know who is attending, and allow box office staff to focus on verifying vaccine/test status. Finally, keeping with the policies of the University of Maine system, all audience members will be masked indoors at all times.

Your cooperation with these new policies is making us all safer.  You are increasing the chances that we can complete a full semester with full capacity. We are all mindful that being together and making music together is a privilege. Thank you for doing your part to help us keep it.
