HOW TO KICKSTART A DATA CULTURE IN YOUR ORGANIZATION: A WORKSHOP
With Catherine D'Ignazio, Educator, Artist/Designer + Software Developer
Data is everywhere right now. But organizations are struggling to figure out how to build their capacity to work with data. Catherine D’Ignazio thinks that you don’t need a data scientist; you need a data culture. In this workshop, she will talk about what that means and introduce a simple learning program called The Data Culture Project to help organizations kickstart their data culture.

Using data visualization as a starting point, this talk works backwards through the data-processing pipeline in order to show how a feminist approach not only exposes how power and privilege operate in data science, but also suggests how different design principles can help to mitigate bias, expose inequality and work towards equity.
