The Muskie School of Public Service and USM's School of Nursing will host the 10th Annual Patient Safety Academy 2020 Vision: Looking at the Future of Patient Safety.  The event will be held March 30, 2020 in Abromson Center, Portland Campus.

All persons interested or engaged in patient safety are invited to attend this day-long educational and interprofessional event. Our line-up of workshops this year will be especially relevant to Maine's healthcare workforce, and we strongly encourage students and new healthcare professionals to attend.

There will be 2 plenary speakers. Dr. Larry Bloomstein will speak from his personal loss and his passion for improving maternal safety in pregnancy. Laura Chalmers, from Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen, Scotland, will also speak to the heart of new professionals and the emotional buy-in needed to be able to speak up for patient safety.

Programming will also include a special film screening, and a dozen workshops on topics including:

  • trauma-informed care,
  • controlled substance stewardship,
  • community paramedicine,
  • high-reliability organizations,
  • informed consent,
  • and more!

Registration is $60 ($25 for students and faculty). Lunch will be  provided for registered participants. For more information, please contact Karen Pearson (karen.pearson@maine.edu) or Judy Tupper (judy.tupper@maine.edu).
