Join us for a research presentation and discussion on "Modelling changes in the coastal geomorphology of Unst, Shetland: The implications for Norse/Medieval harbour use in the North Atlantic" by John Preston.
John Preston is a Ph.D. candidate at the School of GeoSciences, University of Edinburgh, and a visiting scientist at the Muskie School. His thesis is titled "The Geomorphology of Viking and Medieval Harbours in the North Atlantic", and is concerned with understanding the drivers of coastline change in high-energy environments and the implications for harbour use and abandonment in the Norse North Atlantic. Originally from Lancashire in northern England, he has carried out fieldwork in northern Scotland, the Shetland Islands, northern Iceland and Greenland.
