The Muskie School of Public Service Center for Learning (CFL) collaborates with the Maine Department of Health and Human Services' Office of Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services (DHHS-SAMHS) to administer the Mental Health Rehabilitation Technician (MHRT) certification program. For the past three years the team has been working on a re-design of the MHRT/Community Certification program, one of three distinct certifications offered. This certification is targeted at Community Integration workers who provide services for adults with severe and persistent mental illness that include: community integration, intensive case management, assertive community treatment, skills development, day support, and family psycho-education. As part of the sub-contract, the CFL has worked with Muskie's E-learning Group to update its website, which was launched at the end of November.
The website will eventually feature an online application process for the new MHRT/C certification program. Another component of the re-design initiative was to create an online module to introduce applicants to Maine's mental health system. Maine's Mental Health System 101: An Introduction to Our History, Values, Services and Roles is a core requirement of the MHRT/C and is also available for anyone to use. It takes about an hour to complete. View the new website, where you will also find a link to the online module.
