Muskie School of Public Service

Workshop: Effective Public Engagement in the Digital Age

December 1, 2017
9:00 AM to 12:00 PM
102 Wishcamper Center

What does effective public engagement look like?

The Data Innovation Project and the Muskie School of Public Service will host a hands-on workshop with Dr. Eric Gordon, Professor of Media Art at Emerson College & the Director of the Engagement Lab.  Dr. Gordon studies media and technology in civic and political participation. He is particularly interested in the transformation of civic institutions, including government and journalism, in the wake of technological disruption, and the emerging tensions between technological efficiency in “smart city” solutions and democratic governance.

Too often, engaging constituents remains a nebulous process without clear expectations or desired outcomes. Based on the Public Engagement Roadmap, a five-city experiment on innovative public engagement practices, this workshop will include creative ideation, team building, problem identification, empathy building, and design exercises.

This workshop is best suited for: nonprofits, policy makers, planners and anyone who is interested in broadening their community scope.

When: Friday, December 1, 2017, 9:00AM - 12:00PM
