Starting in October 2020, the University of Southern Maine (USM) will offer a limited number of in-person, on-campus tours on our Gorham and Portland campuses by appointment only. Walk-in on-campus tours and Lewiston campus tours are not available at this time.

As a university, we are committed to the safety of our visitors, students, faculty, and staff. As a guest, you have an important role to play in safeguarding the health of our community members. Please refer to the State of Maine travel and visitor guidelines, as well as our COVID-19 policy before traveling to campus.

The University of Maine System (UMS) requires the use of cloth face masks at all times (indoors and outdoors) on each of our campuses. We ask that you bring your own face covering and a water bottle. Water bottle refill stations are available and accessible on campus. Unacceptable face coverings include neck gaiters, bandanas, scarves, and masks with exhalation vents. Review full UMS guidelines.

Please review the following information prior to requesting an appointment time for an in-person, on-campus tour so you know what to expect.

Request a Tour

Our timeline for fulfilling your request is as follows:

  1. Submit your request for an in-person, on-campus tour at least 10 days ahead of your desired tour date.
  2. Within 24 business hours, our Visits and Events team will confirm receipt of your request (we will not respond on weekend days).
  3. Our Visits and Events team will evaluate your request details and match you with one of our Student Ambassadors for a private campus tour. We will also connect you with your Admissions counselor and send you a health screening questionnaire.
  4. Complete your health screening questionnaire. Your participation in this screening is an important part of our COVID-19 precautionary measures to protect the health and safety of everyone on campus.

After you complete your appointment request, we will connect you with your Admissions counselor. We encourage you to schedule a 1-on-1 meeting (video chat or phone) with your counselor to go into greater depth about topics discussed on your tour. Our counselors are always happy to answer your questions about USM!

If you have any questions or concerns, please email Julia Gurney, Associate Director for Visits & Events in the Office of Admissions.
