Activate your University of Maine System and MaineStreet Account

Please go to: my.usm.maine.edu

  1. Click Mange Your Account
  2. Click Account Activation
  3. You will need your Student Identification Number (for example, 0123456) that was sent to you in your acceptance letter.
  4. You will need your Activation Key, (ex. Pt73vcrt) which was sent to you in your acceptance letter.  Click Continue and follow the instructions.

Pay your $100 Enrollment Deposit

The enrollment deposit is required to reserve your place in the entering class. Your deposit will be credited to your student account. Learn more about paying your deposit online or by mail.

Meet your Financial Aid deadlines and Understand your Student Account

Financial aid applicants typically are notified of their awards beginning in April. Check the Financial Aid website for information on FAFSA and scholarships.

It is important that you understand the various costs related to your college experience.  Tuition and Fees are just part of the total cost and being prepared is key to your success.  Student Financial Services is available to assist you.

Orientation Program

The Orientation Program for students and family members will be held in May/June/July for students entering in the fall semester and in December/January for students entering in the spring semester. Email invitations will be sent to your University email address beginning in April for the fall semester and in November for spring semester orientation.

Final High School Transcript (First Year Students)

All students currently in high school are required to submit an official final high school transcript. Send the transcript to:

Final College Transcripts (Transfer Students)

You will receive a Transfer Credit Evaluation in the mail soon after your acceptance to USM. For more information, contact the Transfer Affairs office at 207-780-5340.

Where do I send transcripts?

Apply for On-Campus Housing

Students who wish to reside on campus must complete and submit the housing application (sent to you from the Department of Residential Life and Resident Education after your acceptance) along with a $75 deposit as soon as possible and preferably no later than May 1 (our guaranteed housing date for the fall semester) and January 2 for the spring semester.  We will determine your housing assignment priority by the date that we receive your housing application and fee.

Placement Examination in Mathematics

New students are required to take USM's placement examination in mathematics unless they have the following:

  • SAT mathematics score of 550 or above
  • ACT mathematics score of 22 or above
  • Mathematics course completed at another college which USM accepts to meet college readiness

SAT and ACT score results are valid for five years. The placement examination assesses your current skill level in mathematics. The results will be used to assist you and your adviser in determining the appropriate mathematics course for you to take.  Schedule your test with Academic Assessment.

Submit Immunization Records and Verify Health Insurance

All students are required to submit Student Immunization Form with documentation of the required immunizations prior to the completion of registration. 

All students will be required to show proof of having health insurance as a condition of course enrollment or enroll in the Health Insurance program.  You will need to either "waive" or "accept" the Mandatory Health Insurance online.
