USM Pioneers receive:
- undergraduate research opportunities
- exciting internship opportunities
- learning community environment
- faculty, staff, and industry mentors
- housing selection in Philippi Hall
During the summer before your college freshman year, you will be invited to enjoy a pre-college experience that will give you a preview of your time at USM. This program will include science activities, team building, and an introduction to college life.
Living on Campus
As a Pioneer you will be housed in a common living learning community located in Philippi Hall. Be sure to complete your housing application and rank the Pioneer LLC as your top choice.
Research and Internships
Pioneer students enroll in the same 1-credit experiential lab that includes a semester long project ranging from the design, development, and commercialization of new products and technologies; working with business, entrepreneurs, non-profit organizations, and faculty. During the summer months and possibly the school year, internships will supplement your overall education working in areas of direct interest to you.
Upon graduation, you will have internship experience to help launch your career. Over the last three years, 80% of the student internships in the science, technology, engineering, and math fields at USM received offers for full employment upon graduation.
