New Horizons: An expedition to Pluto

NEW HORIZONS:  An Expedition to Pluto

A new traditional planetarium show about the New Horizons spacecraft en route to Pluto.  Launched on January 29, 2006 and due to fly by the Pluto system on July 15, 2015, the New Horizons probe will give humanity its first close up view of what was once the Ninth Planet.

Though American astronomer Clyde Tombaugh discovered Pluto in 1930, we still know very little about this remote little world.    Even Hubble Space Telescope images show us only vague surface structures.    The New Horizons craft will fly by Pluto and its moons to capture images far more detailed than any other.

At this very moment the New Horizons vessel is moving at more than 36,000 miles per hour toward Pluto.   Even at this speed, observations of the Pluto system will only begin in February 2015.

Discover the New Horizons mission for yourself with this new planetarium show!

Debut performance:  December 31, 2012  11:00 p.m.
