Profile

Sergeant Swann is a native of Windham, ME, and served his community as a Firefighter/EMT-Basic for 11 years.  After attending Windham High School, he enlisted in the US Navy in 1996 as a Firefighter.  During his time in the service he received numerous medals, awards, and commendations.  After completing his enlistment in the service, he returned to Windham and continued working in public safety as a firefighter/EMT.  He also started his education in multiple degrees, specializing in advance forensics/crime scene investigation and administrative management.  In 2001 he began work with Scarborough Police Department as a community police reserve at Pine Point and Higgins Beach while also working in Windham Fire and Rescue.  In 2005 he started his service with the University of Southern Maine as a police officer.

Sergeant Swann is a graduate of the 10th Basic Law Enforcement Training Program (BLETP) at the Maine Criminal Justice Academy.  During his time with USM he became an academy instructor, Field Training Officer, and Multicultural Liaison.  He has been the instructor for training USM officers and communication officers in CPR/first aid.   He also provides periodic CPR training for the USM Community.  In 2019 he was promoted to Sergeant, supervising shift operations and service delivery for the overnight and evening shifts.  He has a strong dedication to promote the safety of the public and saving lives to junior officers as well as the community.
