Chief Ronald Saindon and the USM Public Safety team extend a warm welcome to new and returning students, faculty, and staff for the Fall semester.
The Department of Public Safety at the University of Southern Maine is a full-service agency, staffed by state-certified police officers and communications personnel. Members of the department are specialists, practicing the community engagement and service philosophy with a deep commitment to being Student Focused Every Day. It is our mission to help provide a safe campus for everyone to work and learn.
We also employ student workers as Public Safety Assistants to help our team with community safety efforts and programming https://usm.maine.edu/career-and-employment-hub/usmjobboard-students.
We are available to serve you at all times; our offices are located in the Sullivan Gym on the Portland campus and 28 Husky Drive on the Gorham campus. Please visit our website at https://usm.maine.edu/police.
The University of Southern Maine uses USM Alert to provide emergency phone, text, and email notifications. Students, faculty, and staff receive messages related to campus emergencies, safety information, storm closings (including closings at the Lewiston campus), and outreach messages. This is an “Opt Out” service; learn more about USM Alert by visiting: https://usm.maine.edu/usmalert/.
USM Public Safety would like to remind you to not leave personal property unattended and to secure valuables whenever possible. Keeping our community safe is a group effort; IF YOU SEE SOMETHING, SAY SOMETHING. Please call us at (207)780-5211 to report a crime or notify us about your safety and security concerns.
For questions or concerns about parking and the Metro Bus service, please contact the Parking Services Office at (207)780-4718 (or 780-5211 after hours); they may also be reached by email at firstname.lastname@example.org or visit https://usm.maine.edu/maps-parking-transportation which includes a link to METRO Bus service information.
Thank you for being part of our community; please stay well and take care of one another.
