Professor Kim has returned from a year-long sabbatical in which he was doing research in Korea, developing an agent-based evacuation model to simulate evacuation behavior during natural disaster.
This study suggests if evacuees know the location of a shelter and an immediate egress when the evacuation alarm sounds, it will reduce the evacuation time. Furthermore, knowledge of evacuation points had a stronger impact in facilitating a fast evacuation for the entire population than the immediate egress for the shelter. The results also provide insight and direction for developing evacuation drills and training curricula for the future.
Professor Kim also worked with Seoul Business Agency to develop a master plan for Sang-Am DMC (Digital Media City). The goal of the plan was to prepare infrastructure for a future smart city.
