USM initiatives lessen student debt, President Glenn Cummings says in Portland Press Herald op-ed
Even as the student debt crisis deepens nationally, the average student debt at USM is declining, President Glenn Cummings said in an opinion article published July 23rd in the Portland Press Herald. New initiatives — including increased scholarship funding, money for transfer students and need-based grants — are helping students attend and graduate, he said.

USM's vision for Portland campus detailed in Press Herald
The Portland Press Herald recently covered plans for an $80 million capital campaign to improve USM's campuses. The story by reporter Noel Gallagher described the approval by the University of Maine System trustees to begin the campaign, which calls for particularly dramatic changes on the Portland Campus, including a new dormitory and student center.

USM to host public listening session on U.S. Supreme Court nomination with Sen. Angus King
U.S. Sen. Angus King will hold a public listening session on Sunday, March 5, at USM to learn what Mainers wish to know about U.S. Supreme Court nominee Judge Neil Gorsuch. The session is scheduled for 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Hannaford Hall on USM's Portland Campus. It is being co-sponsored by the University of Southern Maine and the University of Maine School of Law.
