The Public Health department of the Muskie School of Public Service has received notification from the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) that the new Bachelor of Science in Public Health (BSPH) major has been approved for accreditation. The Master of Public Health degree has been accredited by CEPH since 2016.
The Public Health faculty are delighted with the decision and the benefits that it brings to the department and its students. The BSPH program, which launched in fall 2019, currently has about 25 majors. According to Dr. Erika Ziller, Chair of the department, this approval followed CEPH’s thorough review of the BSPH curriculum including all class syllabi. She notes, “While we wish that public health were in the spotlight for more positive reasons, the current pandemic illustrates that having a robust public health workforce is critical to the health and wellbeing of Mainers. We are honored to have our undergraduate and graduate curricula nationally recognized at this high standard.”
