Members of the USM community will strive to “Be the Change” on Friday, April 19, as part of the University‘s 4th Annual Day of Service. The USM Day of Service is a campus-wide initiative that is expected to engage 150-200 students, faculty, staff, and alumni in giving back to our community.
Volunteers can sign up for one-time projects at locations such as Partners for World Health, Portland Trails, Rippling Waters Organic Farms, and the Maine Veterans’ Home. There will also be projects like cleaning up trash in the Back Bay, and a Peaks Island clean up.
And, for the first time, the Day of Service is partnering with the University Neighborhood Organization for a Longfellow Park clean up. “We are grateful for this incredible contribution from USM Day of Service volunteers,” said University Neighborhood Organization President Carol Schiller. “Longfellow Park is a vital part of our community that's enjoyed by so many in our educational district.”
Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. in the Sullivan Recreation and Fitness Complex in Portland, followed by an event kick off at 10:15 a.m. Breakfast and lunch will be provided to participants along with a custom-designed Day of Service t-shirt. Transportation to service sites will also be available. Pre-registration is available online at:
