Denise Taaffe of Baker Newman Noyes and Tony Payne of Clark Insurance have been selected as chair and vice chair, respectively, of the University of Southern Maine Board of Visitors.
Taaffe, a certified public accountant and an alumna of USM, is a principal and director of the audit practice at Baker Newman Noyes in Portland. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Maine Society of Certified Public Accountants, the USM Business Advisory Council, and a board member and treasurer of the Girl Scouts of Maine. Taaffe is also the former president and now honorary trustee of the Susan Curtis Foundation board. She began her career with the international firm of KPMG prior to becoming a founding principal of Baker Newman Noyes. She resides in Scarborough with her husband.
Payne is the business development director for Clark Insurance in Portland. He has served as the director of the Alliance for Maine’s Future, vice president of underwriting and marketing with Maine Employers’ Mutual Insurance Company (MEMIC), New England region vice president of communication for OneBeacon Insurance, and president of Maine Media. He has been active in civic affairs for three decades, including as chairman of the board for the Institute for Civic Leadership. Payne is a graduate of Cheverus High School in Portland and Hobart College in Geneva, NY, with a degree in political science. He resides in Falmouth with his wife and three sons.
The USM Board of Visitors was established in 1998 to advise the president on community and regional needs, advocate for the university and to assist with fund raising.
