Education experts from USM advise Maine Charter School Commission

A report authored by two professors emeritus from the University of Southern Maine is calling for changes in how the state measures success at its charter schools.

David Silvernail from USM’s Center for Education Policy, Applied Research, and Evaluation and Richard Barnes, who served as a leader in the College of Education and Human Development, presented their findings to Maine Charter School Commission, according to a Portland Press Herald story by reporter Noel Gallagher.

“You are far ahead of brick-and -mortar and traditional schools in terms of having a framework and using that framework to advise and monitor charter schools,” Silvernail told the commission. “This (report) is how to sharpen and enhance that framework.”
