The University of Southern Maine Homecoming and Family Weekend, October 12 to 14, was a huge hit with hundreds of students, alumni, families and friends attending over 20 events throughout the weekend.
Kicking off with Chris Matthews from "Hardball" at Hannaford Hall (watch the replay here), other bright spots in a somewhat rainy weekend included an Outdoor (turned Indoor) Band Concert, Family Casino Night, Octoberfest, and plenty of USM Athletics. A little bit of rain can't bring USM Huskies down!
Sunday afternoon Homecoming featured an "Octoberfest" celebration. Alumni, students and their families (Champ too!) enjoyed a petting zoo, farmers market, food trucks, and showed off their creativity with some colorful pumpkin painting. Look for this fun day to be included in Homecoming festivities next year as well.
"What a fantastic weekend it was, providing me with all sorts of opportunities to mix with alumni, students and their families on Saturday and Sunday," said USM President Glenn Cummings."My thanks to David Lewis, who played a leading role along with our Alumni and Student Life staff in making the weekend the success it was."

In USM Athletics, Huskies’ women’s soccer and field hockey were victorious on all fronts celebrating its senior student-athletes on “Senior Day” with key Little East Conference wins while hosting USM’s Campus Safety Project for Domestic Violence Awareness Games.
Throughout the events in Gorham, many former Husky student-athlete alumni took part in alumni contests and events with strong turnouts for men’s basketball, men’s lacrosse and women’s lacrosse.
Although weather prevented an alumnae softball contest, Husky alumnae enjoyed an informal pizza get together and watched USM’s women’s soccer and field hockey teams from the comfort and warmth of the USM Softball Stadium. The evening concluded with a Husky Athletics Alumni Social at the USM Ice Arena and the start fo the Huskies’ hockey season with its Blue vs. White Scrimmage.
USM will continue this new tradition next year, an amazing opportunity for students, families, and alumni to come together for a weekend of celebration.
