WMPG FM, the University of Southern Maine’s community radio station, will host all three of Maine’s gubernatorial candidates individually on the station’s weekly public affairs program, “Nonprofit Insider,” to discuss their views on Maine’s nonprofits.
The series begins, live, from 1-1:30 p.m., Friday, May 30, with independent candidate Eliot Cutler. Governor Paul LePage (R) has agreed to appear from 1-1:30 p.m. on Friday, July 18, and Congressman Mike Michaud (D) will appear from 1-1:30 p.m. on Friday, August 22. WMPG may be heard at 90.9 & 104.1 FM and also streams all programming from WMPG.org.
“We are eager to learn the views of the candidates about the roles of nonprofits in our communities and the issues they face,” said David Unger, producer and host of the weekly “Nonprofit Insider.” “There are nearly 6,500 nonprofits in Maine, employing over 86,200 individuals at the end of 2011,” Unger added.
Each week, “Nonprofit Insider” typically profiles a nonprofit executive director from Maine or southern New Hampshire. The program broadcasts from WMPG’s studios on the Portland campus of the University of Southern Maine.
