USM Concert Band joins in worldwide celebration of Leonard Bernstein’s 100th birthday at 15th Annual Old-Fashioned Outdoor Band Concert
The USM Concert Band, conducted by Dr. Trae Blanco, presented its 15th annual Old-Fashioned Outdoor Band Concert and picnic on the green in front of Corthell Hall on October 7.
USM Art Department & Galleries present traveling exhibition ‘Resonance and Memory: The Essence of Landscape’ through Dec. 8
USM’s Art Department & Galleries celebrated the opening of the traveling group exhibition,“Resonance and Memory: The Essence of Landscape,” with a reception on October 5 at the USM Art Gallery in Gorham. The exhibition showcases reimagined landscapes with paintings, sculpture, digital drawings, photography and glass works by a group of eight artists. The exhibition runs through December 8.

"There are all of these great musical happenings in downtown Portland," said Trae Blanco, USM's Director of Bands. "I think the next step for us is to connect to this big musical scene, to be near them."

USM Tourism program explores new partnership with AAA and Royal Caribbean
USM's Tourism and Hospitality program, in partnership with AAA Northern New England, is exploring new opportunities with Royal Caribbean International. Students will have the opportunity to pursue an internship with AAA, culminating in a cruise in May on the Anthem of the Seas to Bermuda.
Afghanistan veteran and former congressional staffer enrolls at USM
To new USM student Rob McCann, life has been a long, long march. As a boots-on-the-ground Marine, he trekked across the Afghan city of Marjah, carrying rockets amid the war's single biggest offensive. As a veteran, he hiked the 2,200-mile Appalachian Trail, raising money in the memory of a fallen brother Marine. And he found his own peace.

USM professor Dan Sonenberg’s “The Summer King” earns praise at its world premiere at the Pittsburgh Opera. The event drew praise by the Portland Press Herald.
