Student Juried Exhibition opening

USM Art Gallery Presents 2018 Student Juried Exhibition and BFA Exhibition

On Thursday, March 22, 6:00 - 8:00 p.m., the University of Southern Maine Art Department and Galleries present the Opening Reception of the USM Student Juried Exhibition at the USM Art Gallery in Gorham. The exhibition, currently running March 9 - April 1, features the artwork of USM students, whether or not they have chosen to pursue a degree in art. Each year, local jurors review the student submissions and select roughly 40 pieces for display. T

USM's Judy Shepard-Kegl highlighted by Portland Press Herald for ongoing work with deaf children in Nicaragua

University of Southern Maine Linguistics Professor Judy Shepard-Kegl's work with deaf children in Nicaragua was highlighted in a Portland Press Herald feature story titled, “Seeing the signs: Renowned USM professor reflects on life-changing language discovery.” The detailed feature story by reporter Kelley Bouchard described Shepard-Kegl’s 32-year-old revelation that deaf children at a Managua school who had never been taught a sign language had invented their own.

USM's Curley earns four 'Rookie of the year' honors in women's basketball

University of Southern Maine freshman Kristen Curley has been honored by D3hoops.com as the Northeast Region Co-Rookie of the Year. Her contribution to the women's basketball team has also been featured in the Portland Press Herald.
