10/03/19 – Results of first-ever report on Maine’s school-based policing released by USM's Cutler Institute

The new report, “School-Based Policing in Maine,” funded by the Maine Juvenile Justice Advisory Group, examines Maine’s increasing use of school resource officers (SROs) and finds that by itself, school policing is not evidenced to significantly reduce school violence or improve school safety.

USM students to learn emergency medicine from LifeFlight of Maine crew

A helicopter from LifeFlight of Maine will land on Hodgdon Field at the University of Southern Maine’s Gorham Campus on Friday 9/27, as part of the University’s Emergency Medical Response class where students will learn about the initial critical care that the LifeFlight medical professionals provide.

"Contemporary Responses to Modernism: A New England Perspective," will open with a reception on Thursday, Oct 10, 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m, at the USM Art Gallery on the Gorham Campus. The exhibition curator, Joanna Fink, director of the Alpha Gallery in Boston, will present a gallery talk at 6:00 p.m.

USM Professor of Environmental Science and Policy Robert Sanford has been appointed by Gov. Janet Mills to the state Board of Environmental Protection.

9/19/19 — USM formally elected to University of Arctic network

The University of Southern Maine was officially accepted into the University of the Arctic following a presentation by USM President Glenn Cummings on Sept. 18 at Stockholm University.

Sept. 13, 2019 — Inspiring Maine premiere “The Women Who Mapped the Stars” to open USM Department of Theatre season

The USM Department of Theatre launches their season dedicated to celebrating women with a Maine premiere by Boston-based playwright, Joyce Van Dyke. "The Women Who Mapped the Stars," opening Friday, October 4 and running through Sunday, October 13.

Sept. 10, 2019 — Lehmann duo opens USM Faculty Concert Series; Resinosa Ensemble premieres Sonenberg's work

The USM School of Music opens the Fall Faculty Concert Series on Friday, September 27, 8:00 p.m., at the Corthell Concert Hall with “Let’s Duet - Intimate Conversations for Two”. The evening features Dr. Robert Lehmann, USM professor of music and director of strings and orchestral activities, playing violin, and his wife, Kimberly, on viola performing works written for this most 'distilled' form of chamber music, the duo.

August 29, 2019 — USM president announces $1 million gift at Fall 2019 Opening Breakfast

GORHAM, Maine — University of Southern Maine President Glenn Cummings announced a new $1 million gift and discussed the university's commitment to inclusion, equity and justice at USM’s Fall 2019 Opening Breakfast, held August 29th in the Costello Sports Complex on the Gorham Campus.
