This special Women In Leadership breakfast is hosted by the USM Alumni Association featuring guest speaker Joan Fortin of the law firm Bernstein Shur, one of MaineBiz’s 2018 Women to Watch. Fortin will lead an in-depth conversation about an important topic: The Gender Pay Gap.

The University of Southern Maine School of Music has announced the Spring 2019 calendar of events taking place in Gorham, Portland and Westbrook this season. The busy line-up opens on Saturday, February 9 on the Gorham Campus with a free Master Class with the Atlantic Brass Quintet.

The University of Southern Maine Art Galleries celebrates the creative work of twenty art faculty this winter with the USM Art Faculty Exhibition taking place at the USM Art Gallery on the Gorham Campus, January 31 through March 3. The opening reception will take place on Thursday, January 31, 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., on the Gorham Campus with artist talks beginning at 5:30 p.m. (snow date: 2/7).

Jan. 14, 2019 —USM Art Department and Galleries announce Spring 2019 exhibitions, lectures and events
The University of Southern Maine’s Art Department and Galleries will kick off their spring 2019 season of exhibitions and programs on Tuesday, January 22 with photographer Smith Galtney’s exhibition, “My Primary Ghost,” at USM’s AREA Gallery on the Portland Campus, as well as a USM Faculty Exhibition at the Art Gallery on the Gorham Campus opening on Thursday, January 31.
Jan. 10, 2019 —Award-winning authors explore writing truth to power at USM’s Stonecoast MFA winter residency
Leading up to Martin Luther King Day, the USM Stonecoast MFA in Creative Writing program will host Pulitzer Prize finalist and Stonecoast faculty member, Martín Espada, and award-winning writer Cheryl Clarke, who together will lead an interactive discussion, "The Task Before Us: Writing Truth to Power." The event will take place Friday, January 18, 7:00 p.m., in the Casco Bay Room at the Harraseeket Inn, Freeport, Maine.
Dec. 18, 2018 — Passionate book collector and longtime library employee leaves $500,000 legacy to USM
The university is pleased to announce a $500,000 legacy gift to its prestigious Special Collections at the Glickman Family Library from Albert A. Howard, a collector of rare books. Before his death in 2017, Howard served 35 years in the halls of the USM Libraries.

USM Convocation presents a film screening of “Dawnland” in collaboration with the Upstander Project, MPBN, and Maine-Wabanaki REACH. This special evening, Friday, November 16, will include a live concert and storytelling with acclaimed performer and Dawnland composer Jennifer Kreisberg, Chris Newell and many special guests.
