USM's Abdullahi earns prestigious scholarship to learn Arabic in Jordan
USM political science student Nairus Abdullahi earned a prestigious 2017 Critical Language Scholarship, enabling her to spend this summer learning Arabic in Jordan. Abdullahi, who lives in Lewiston, was one of roughly 550 students selected nationwide into the program, which is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs to raise the number of Americans studying and mastering critical foreign languages.

USM Ardis Cameron wrote a recent opinion piece for the Portland Press Herald about the availability of high quality food. Her piece was titled, "'Real food' shouldn't be hard to get in Maine."

Tonya Bailey-Curry, 2017 Featured Graduate
Even as her children attended college, Tonya Bailey-Curry worked toward her own degrees, graduating from Central Maine Community College before coming to USM. She earned her undergraduate degree in social work at USM's Lewiston-Auburn College before earning her Master of Social Work on the Portland Campus.

Prestigious graduate program nurtures writers from across the globe
In 15 years, Stonecoast MFA has built a growing reputation as one of the finest programs of its kind in the country. It's a low-residency program, meaning that students spend most of the year at their homes and workplaces, interacting one-on-one with faculty and other students by e-mail, phone and Skype. And then, every January and July, they get together in Southern Maine for intensive 10-day-long residencies.
