Tiia Kand will graduate with a bachelor’s degree in International Business with a minor in Food Studies and Economics. In many ways, she’s a traditional student, athlete, scholar and dorm resident. Though she was born in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, she grew up in the small town of Abbot, Maine with her six siblings. Her parents’ background encouraged her to study international business and pursue a Study Abroad opportunity in The Netherlands as a sophomore. Kand has made the most of her time at USM. She competed as a three-season athlete in Track & Field and Soccer, served as a resident assistant on the Gorham Campus, worked various off-campus jobs and concluded her work as a Mitchell Institute Scholar. She credits her coaches and teammates, as well as faculty of the newly-minted Food Studies program and the Mitchell Institute for helping to get her to this. Kand hopes to attend graduate school and is exploring her options.
