U.S. Navy Director of Warfare Integration for Information Dominance to be Keynote Speaker for the 2nd Annual State of IT in Maine Conference

The Maine Cyber Security Cluster (MCSC) and the Information and Innovation Special Projects Group at the University of Southern Maine (USM) are hosting the second annual “State of IT in Maine Cyber Security Conference” on Friday, November 8. Held in the Abromson Center on USM’s Portland campus, the all-day conference will provide insights into current state-of-the-art technologies, upcoming events, and “disruptive technologies” that are occurring in Maine and beyond.

This year’s keynote speaker will be Rear Admiral William E. Leigher, one of the nation’s foremost military experts on cyber security and USM graduate (‘80 Political Science).  A native of Appleton, Maine, Leigher is now one of the Navy’s leading officers for cyber warfighting capabilities. He has worked extensively in both Navy and joint military circles with cyberspace policy formulation and operations as well as network security.

Representatives from business, industry, education, government, and research are invited to participate. Attendees will have opportunities to network with other professionals, get answers from practitioners statewide, and become educated on emerging technologies and pending legislation. The afternoon will be broken into workshops to include topics such as New Technologies, Privacy & Legal Issues in Cyber Security, Cyber Ethics, and Small Business Resources.  A featured "After Action Report" (AAR) will be held in Hannaford Hall by the U.S. Northern Command in conjunction with National Guard Bureau on the Vigilant Guard Regional Exercise Planning Conference. The AAR will provide an opportunity for State National Guard Headquarters, State Joint Task Forces, Maine Emergency Management, county, international and local civil partners to improve communication and operational relationships in a domestic operations environment.
