The University of Southern Maine (USM) has announced it will now be airing its monthly television show, “The USM Update,” statewide in an effort to better highlight the many initiatives undertaken by the University to increase workforce development in Maine and serve as an engine for the Maine economy.

“The USM Update,” a monthly, half-hour program focusing on University-wide research, academic programming and corporate partnerships, was created in September 2016 as a way to spread awareness of the work being done by and for the USM community.

Since its inception, the show has been broadcast monthly on the Portland Media Center (formerly CTN) Channel 5 serving the Greater Portland area.

Now, with the show in its second season, the University of Southern Maine has partnered with public access stations throughout Southern, Central, Western and Coastal Maine to better reach the communities where USM students live and where USM graduates enter the workforce.

As of Feb. 5, 2018, “The USM Update” will broadcast to 12 local access stations in Maine, covering 50 communities with a combined population of more than 463,000 people.

The show will be aired on:

  • Portland Media Center (formerly CTN5) TV
  • South Portland Community TV
  • Gorham Community Access TV (GOCAT)
  • Central Maine CATV (Kennebec and Somerset counties)
  • Harpswell Community TV
  • Biddeford Public Access TV
  • CTV7 Augusta
  • Brunswick Cable TV3
  • Maine Coast TV (Knox County)
  • BCTV Belfast
  • Norway-Paris Community TV (Oxford County)
  • Great Falls TV (Lewiston-Auburn-Lisbon)

"USM attracts students from all over Maine, and once they graduate, they launch their careers in every corner of the state,” says Glenn Cummings, USM President and host of the show. “It’s fitting that the reach of ‘The USM Update’ will now extend into the homes of so many of our former, current and future students, regularly informing them of new workforce initiatives and programs that fuel our economy and enrich the lives of our citizens.”

The first episode of the 2018 Spring Semester airs Monday, Feb. 5 at 8:30 p.m. on Portland Media Center (CTN) Channel 5. Viewers in other communities are advised to check their local listings to see when it is available, as USM hopes to further expand the show's reach.
