Intercultural grad ceremony 2018

Leading up to the University of Southern Maine 2019 Commencement, many departments are busy with special events celebrating the accomplishments of their graduating students in a more intimate setting. Here are the details!

Commencement 2019 - USM Affiliated Ceremonies

Monday, April 29
Intercultural Student Graduation
6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Hannaford Hall, Abromson Center, Portland Campus

USM Intercultural Student Engagement will celebrate the accomplishments of international, multicultural, indigenous, lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer, and allied students who are part of the 2019 graduating class. There will be two processions, one to honor multicultural students and another to honor lgbtq+ students.

2019 USM Athletics Senior Honors Night
6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Elks Lodge, Portland, Maine

USM Athletics will honor and celebrate 68 senior student athletes during its 20th Annual Senior Honors Night Banquet. USM's Vice President of Enrollment Management Nancy Griffin will welcome the Huskies' Class of 2019, their teammates, family and friends for a festive evening at the Elks Lodge in Portland. USM Director of Athletics Al Bean will open the ceremony and present several Department Awards, and USM students, Kimberly Howrigan and Devin Warren, will reflect upon their time as Husky student athletes. Howrigan is graduating with a degree in Accounting & Finance this May, while Warren will receive his degree in Liberal Studies.

2019 Veterans Graduation Recognition Ceremony
5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
University Events Room, 7th Floor Glickman Library, Portland Campus

Join the USM Veterans Services department to celebrate the achievements of the 2019 graduating class of military-affiliated students. Medals are presented to all graduates; this will be the 7th Annual Veterans Graduation Recognition Ceremony. The reception will precede the ceremony at 5:00 p.m. and cake to follow. All are welcome to attend.

Student Leadership Awards Gala
5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Abromson Community Education Center

All USM students, faculty, staff, and community members are invited to attend the Student Leadership Awards Gala. This annual celebration of the incredible accomplishments of our most spirited and involved USM community members is a wonderful occasion to come together and honor the students, faculty, and staff that make our University shine.

Environmental Science and Policy Banquet

Italian Heritage Center, Portland

The Department of Environmental Science and Policy will celebrate 2019 grads, their department, and community at their yearly banquet - all are welcome! Tickets required.

Monday, May 6
Class of 2019 Week

Monday kicks off a week of events and activities for graduates to celebrate together leading up to Commencement! Cap decorating will be happening every day, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and much more - check out the full schedule

Tuesday, May 7
ROCC Recovery Graduation
5:30 PM to 7:30 PM
University Events Room, 7th floor Glickman Library, Portland Campus

Join the Recovery Oriented Campus Center (ROCC) to celebrate their 2019 graduating "ROCC Stars." The ceremony will include guest speakers, student recognition, and reception to follow. Graduates will be presented plaques recognizing their service to others, as well as purple graduation honor cords. All are welcome to attend, including guests of graduates and community members.

Thursday, May 9
Class of 2019 President's Champagne Reception
5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Abromson Center, First Floor

Graduating students of the Class of 2019 are invited to join the USM Alumni Association and President Glenn Cummings for a special reception in their honor. The reception includes a special champagne toast by President Cummings to wish students farewell and his best wishes for the future. One hundred custom made Class of 2019 champagne glasses have been created for this very special event for the first 100 students to arrive. To receive yours, RSVP and arrive early as they will be on a first-come basis.

Friday, May 10
School of Social Work Graduation Celebration
2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
102 Wishcamper Center, Portland Campus

All graduating BSW and MSW students and their families are cordially invited to the School of Social Work Graduation Celebration, as well as USM Faculty, Administration, and Staff. There will be plenty of food and a cash bar. Please RSVP by May 6.

Muskie School Graduation Ceremony
4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Woodfords Club, Portland

Muskie School of Public Service alumna, Dr. Lisa Pohlmann, CEO of the Natural Resources Council of Maine will be this year’s keynote speaker at the Muskie School Graduation Ceremony. Students and guests will enjoy an informal reception with light refreshments and the ceremony will begin at 4:30 p.m.; opening remarks will be followed by student awards, the keynote address, and the introduction of students.
