USM Violinist Robert Lehmann and his wife, violist Kimberly Lehmann, earned praise from Portland Press Herald reviewer Allan Kozinn for their recent recital at Portland's First Parish Unitarian Universalist Church.
Robert Lehmann serves as a professor and director of String Studies and Orchestral activities within the USM School of Music. Kimberly Lehmann also teaches within the school.
The married couple played works by Alessandro Rolla, Manuel Ponce and Franz Schubert.
Kozinn praised the duo's work on Schubert's "Der Erlkönig"
"This version distributes the vocal line to both instruments, evoking the song's three characters clearly, and splits the accompaniment, so that the viola plays the quickly rising and falling bass line, while the violin has the repeated tones that create the work's spooky tension," he wrote. "The Lehmanns captured its spirit with a perfect balance of grittiness and tragedy."
