Maine Public recently featured "Gateway to Opportunity," a six-week learning and work course aimed at teaching Portland high schoolers about videomaking.
USM's Muskie School of Public Service hosted the program with sponsorship from the Communications and Media Department.
The local high schoolers made a documentary about learning and living Portland.
"I've learned in South Africa my whole life and I can tell you that Portland High School is different from where I used to go because they work with the students and they help you understand," said one of the students in the documentary.
The Communications and Media Department at USM sponsored the course. USM alum Jason Doyle worked with the students to make their documentary.
