University of Southern Maine President Glenn Cummings spoke with Maine Public Radio Morning Edition host Irwin Gratz, discussing the University’s ‘turning point’ and period of revival.
President Cummings stated, “USM is the community engaged civically involved highly metropolitan university that is engaged with business and nonprofit opportunities for our students which is our unique niche.”
President Cummings indicated student enrollment is up and continues to grow and, clinical internships have increased to include 46 of the 50 major programs focused on integrating students into the community. He also reveals the University’s master plan to expand.
“Portland is a place that people want to be. People from around the country and around the world want to come here and they are very interested in being part of the cultural and civic life in Portland, our students are no exception to that. Our hope is to build a campus where we have a real sense community on the Portland campus.”
