USM Professor to test lake water quality

USM Professor of Environmental Science Karen Wilson

The work of Karen Wilson, an associate research professor in University of Southern Maine’s Environmental Science Department, was featured recently in the Portland Press Herald.

Wilson will participate in testing of Highland Lake’s water quality this summer to determine the cause of a mysterious bloom of blue-green algae that has occurred every July for the past four years.

She stated in the article that the future health of the lake depends on controlling the phosphorus levels now.
