USM student interviewed by WMTW-TV for efforts to help fishing industry workers

University of Southern Maine student Levi Lucy was recently featured on WMTW-TV for his efforts to help workers on Maine fishing boats to avoid skin cancer,

Lucy, a nursing student, has been working with Impact Melanoma to install sunscreen dispensers on working waterfronts.

“It’s a necessity,” Lucy told reporter Kathleen Jordan. “None of us are immune from getting the damage to our skin.”

Workers on fishing boats tend to get an extreme amount of sun, since the water often reflects sunlight.

The work is aided by a Maine Cancer Foundation grant.
