Here at USM, we have many voices that make up our community. We're pleased to continue USM Voices - an opportunity for students, faculty, staff, alumni and more to share their thoughts about all things USM. Following graduation in 2020, student Pratima Bajgain hopes to use her biotechnology degree to help her home community in Nepal. Here she tells us about the natural beauty and cultural diversity of her home country. If you would like to share a blog post with us for potential publication, please submit your blog idea here.

Nepal is a land of beautiful plains gradually rising to green mountains and give way to the snowy white peaks of the Himalayas. Steeped with culture and tradition. Nepal is one of the most diverse places in the world. With beautiful temples and monasteries, countless languages, festivals, shimmering rivers, soaring mountains and clear blue lakes, my country is truly unique.
Although quite small geographically, Nepal is filled with diversity and pride. It is home to many different cultures, ethnicities and castes. It is a place where people live together in harmony as brothers and sisters respecting each other. Travel to Nepal and you will be welcomed with warm Nepali hospitality and enjoy a variety of delicious foods. You will certainly have an opportunity to taste "Daal Bhat Tarkari", the most popular food and wholesome meal available throughout Nepal. It includes steamed rice (bhat), lentil (Daal), curry (Tarkari) and pickle (achar).
In Nepal, you can visit beautiful temples and monasteries, tour museums or enjoy the more adventurous activities my country has to offer like white water rafting, bungee jumping, jungle safari, paragliding, and mountain biking. You'll never be bored there!
The natural beauty of Nepal, the flora and fauna, entice people and endow them with wonderful memories that they will never forget.
We are home to many rare and endangered animals and plants as well. Nepal is a country where cultural diversity and biodiversity are special and celebrated. There is unity in diversity. Nepal is a piece of heaven, and my country is my pride.
